Volunteers Make all the Difference in our Gardens
As COVID-19 continued to impact our schools and gardens through summer 2021, volunteers and community partners rose to the occasion, coming together on projects, planting and harvesting produce for food banks and building up our community and schools. Without their support, many of our gardens and farms would have grown into fields of weeds and would have missed opportunities to provide much needed food assistance to our students and families. If you are interested in volunteering in a DPS Garden for a single day or an entire season email christopher_woodburn@dpsk12.net. Here are just a few of the organizations and volunteers that had a huge impact on DPS this past summer:
- Families work together at Teller ES
- Swigert students plant their garden on their Day of Service
- Volunteers from Evolve Vacation Rentals after a spring workday at Steele ES
- Mile High United Way volunteers at Garden Place Academy
- Band-It volunteers working hard at Garden Place Academy
- Delta Dental and Denver Urban Gardens cleared weeds and built new beds at Ellis ES
- Lincoln Hills Cares interns worked at three DPS gardens and the farm at Smiley
